The Pheasant, Preston Grange, North Shields

North Road

This public house was built in around 1972 by S. McCulloch (Construction) Ltd. The owners of the pub at that time were a consortium that included Mr. Syd McCulloch and Mr. George Sheil who had secured a portion of the land of Preston Grange Farm.

A mirror image of the building was constructed in Blyth at around the same time and opened as the Golden Eagle.

In the late 1970s the restaurant gained a fine reputation while during the early 1980s The Pheasant was a prime venue for live music with acts such as the Moat Brothers, The Wild Cats, The Amazing Squibs and Mick Whittaker regularly appearing.

Throughout the 1990s the music continued, notably during the landlordship of Rowland Arthur (Roly) Barnes.

In later years it was taken over by Newcastle Breweries and then Go-Ahead Leisure before being demolished to make way for new apartment buildings.
